Highlighting health in a morning with Stan Alves OAM

The relationships we form with our local communities at Programmed are a real source of pride, and this value was demonstrated again as Mordialloc’s seniors group invited our Bayside City Council team along to an inspiring talk delivered by Stan Alves OAM.

Stan is a former AFL footballer, coach and media personality who has led a life well-lived and offers plenty of expertise when it comes to looking after yourself.

Built on a foundation of challenges such as the mental and physical strain of being an AFL coach, as well as the tragic loss of a child at a young age, Stan spoke of how his work environment offered him a space to grieve, work with others, and open up and talk.

Stan also spoke to the importance of minding one’s physical health, encouraging attendees to consider regular check ups even if you’re feeling healthy. He highlighted this insight by sharing a story of the prevalence of bowel cancer in his family, with a shocking 8 out of 10 of his mother’s children diagnosed with the disease. Early intervention was key in his own survival, with many other cases often caught too late.

As we champion the health and safety of our Programmed community and the communities in which we operate, it was fantastic to have an opportunity to share in these important insights and reminders to prioritise our wellbeing.
