This Friday, 30 August is Wear it Purple Day - an annual event that raises awareness for the LGBTIQA+ community, particularly young people. It was started in 2010 as a response to tragic stories of teenagers taking their own lives due to bullying and harassment related to their sexual orientation or gender identity.
This year’s theme is "Your Passion, Your Pride", with artwork by Nicky Tsekouras, winner of Wear It Purple’s Youth Action Council (YAC) Design Competition to create a campaign message and artwork in celebration of LGBTQIA+ people openly and visibly achieving their dreams in sport, art, science and more!
It's important for everyone, regardless of age, to feel proud of who they are and the person they are becoming. We should celebrate our differences and connect through our shared humanity.
At Programmed, we prioritise creating a diverse and inclusive workforce where all individuals are respected. Supporting our employees who identify as LGBTIQIA+ is a crucial step in fostering a safe and inclusive environment. We don't just tolerate or accept diversity but openly embrace it.
Wear it Purple Day is an opportunity for us to show our support by wearing purple. We have provided a Toolbox Talk and additional information to share with your teams.
