"Living the “Work and Smile” vision.

Programmed is not just a workplace - it's a place where connections are made, voices are heard. It's like an extended family. The PFM team in Canberra was overjoyed to win the first “Work and Smile” Friday selfie challenge in September 2024, earning a $250 gift card to share.

With management asking for ideas on how to spend the prize, emails poured in with exciting suggestions. From adding it to the Christmas party bar tab, hosting a pizza lunch, having a morning tea for all, to organising a wellbeing day or donating to the Street Cat Alliance Charity or the Kids in Care Christmas Appeal—every idea was full of enthusiasm.

After a week of anticipation, the resounding choice was to donate the winnings to the Kids in Care Christmas Appeal. Taking advantage of the Black Friday sales, the team bought toys from Big W, with discounts of over 50%, stretching the $250 prize to an incredible $530 spent on presents.

On the 13th of December 2024, Detective Sergeant John Giles, the amazing founder of the Kids in Care Charity since 2013, visited the Fyshwick Programmed office. He collected the impressive array of gifts donated by contractors, staff, and the toys from the Work and Smile competition winnings.

After filling two vehicles with presents and capturing some heartwarming photos with the Programmed team, Detective Sergeant Giles expressed heartfelt gratitude for the donation. He shared moving stories of young people who had endured unimaginable hardships, reminding everyone that the gifts donated will profoundly impact these children's lives.

The takeaway? Never underestimate the power of giving. The acts of kindness will ripple through the lives of those who receive them."
