Ask R U OK? Show you're here to hear

Written by Communications | Sep 3, 2026, 4:32:06 AM

R U OK? Day is coming up on Thursday 10 September, providing an opportunity to pause, check in and build confidence in having meaningful conversations with the people around us.

While R U OK? Day shines a spotlight on the importance of checking in, these conversations matter all year round. Regular, genuine check-ins help build trust and create opportunities for people to seek support when they need it. The message of R U OK? is simple: if someone is on your mind, take the time to reach out and ask.

Knowing how to start the conversation can help make those check-ins feel a little easier. The short video below shares practical tips on how to ask R U OK? and support someone with care and confidence.

Join Sonder's practical webinar and learn how to support someone beyond the initial check-in.

From conversation to care: how to support someone who is not OK

Starting the conversation is important but knowing how to respond and continue supporting someone can sometimes feel less straightforward. This practical webinar from Sonder is designed to help build confidence in supporting others beyond the initial check-in, featuring Julia Bageski, Graeme Cowan (founding board director of R U OK?) and Sonder psychologist Andrew Fan.

Resources

Small actions can help create a workplace where people feel supported and connected. Whether it's putting up a poster, using a Teams background, sharing a resource with a colleague or running the toolbox talk. These small actions help keep wellbeing visible, raise awareness of the support available and make it easier for people to reach out when they need it.

Let's continue to make wellbeing conversations part of everyday life (refer to Programmed’s Pulse Check Tool), not just R U OK? Day. A simple check-in can help someone feel supported, connected and remind them that they don't have to navigate challenges alone.
