Creating opportunities for people to participate, contribute and belong.

With this year’s World FM Day theme, Cultivating Belonging Through Built Environments, we take the opportunity to celebrate the people behind the work and how this connects to Programmed’s advocacy for inclusion, not just in what we do, but in everything we do.

While Programmed positions social inclusion as part of its broader community approach, embedded across its operations rather than treated as a standalone activity, it is ultimately our people who bring this framework to life and make it meaningful.

Programmed’s focus has always been on creating opportunities for people to participate, contribute and belong, whether through meaningful employment, skills development or community-led programs. We recognise that inclusion looks different in different places, so our approach is grounded in listening and responding to local needs.

 

Creating opportunities for inclusion across the organisation

A key part of Programmed’s inclusion work is supporting pathways into employment for people who may face barriers to work. This includes people from culturally diverse backgrounds, young people at the beginning of their careers, and people with disability.

Across Programmed, we work with community organisations, training providers and social partners to deliver work experience opportunities, job readiness programs, apprenticeships and ongoing support. Our aim is to create long-term, sustainable outcomes that benefit individuals, workplaces and communities alike.

We are also committed to disability inclusion across our workforce and contracts. This includes accessible recruitment practices, practical guidance for managers and contractors, and strong partnerships with specialist organisations. By focusing on ability, contribution and support, we continue to build workplaces where more people can thrive.

There are also many ways for employees to actively contribute to Programmed’s inclusion initiatives. From fundraising activities and Harmony Day celebrations to volunteer days and community programs, our people play an important role in bringing inclusion to life across the organisation.

Inclusion is an ongoing journey. We continue to work alongside First Nations communities through culturally respectful engagement, training and employment opportunities, while recognising important moments such as NAIDOC Week as opportunities to listen, learn and strengthen relationships.

Place-based programs, particularly in housing and community settings, allow us to tailor initiatives to local priorities and build partnerships that deliver meaningful impact.
