Reducing single-use plastics isn't always about major transformations. Sometimes, it's about finding smarter ways to do everyday tasks.
As part of our continued commitment to reducing waste and improving sustainability outcomes, Programmed Facility Management (PFM) has recently introduced reusable linen liners across mining accommodation operations, replacing thousands of single-use plastic liners traditionally used to transport and protect linen.

At Golden Grove, more than 1,500 plastic liners were used between November 2024 and March 2026. By transitioning to reusable linen liners supplied and managed by SPL Services, PFM has significantly reduced soft plastic waste while maintaining hygiene standards and improving operational efficiency.
The new closed-loop system means clean linen is delivered in reusable bags, which are then collected, laundered and reused, eliminating the need for single-use plastic liners. The change has also improved airflow during storage and transport, helping reduce moisture and mould risks.
This initiative demonstrates how practical operational improvements can reduce waste, support circular economy principles, and create positive environmental outcomes without compromising service quality. The successful pilot at Golden Grove is now being expanded to additional sites.
Plastic Free July reminds us that every improvement counts. Whether it's choosing a reusable coffee cup, refusing a plastic bag, or identifying opportunities to reduce waste in our operations, small actions can collectively make a significant difference.
