This Friday, we hit the pitch with the Melbourne Water crew for a night of fast footwork and fierce fun thanks to a story submission from Sharon Georgiou!
"Recently, our teams came together to do battle on the pitch at their third social indoor soccer (Futsal) tournament held at the Oakleigh Indoor Sports club. The competition arranged by employees, outside of work hours and was open to all members of the Melbourne Water contract to either play or come along with family and friends to watch our Water gurus showcase their football skills! The event was even live streamed so those who could not make it along did not miss out!
This event always ignites our competitive team spirit and provides an excellent opportunity for friendly competition, team building, and of course, some good old-fashioned fun! And not to mention, there were bragging rights on the line!
We are delighted to say the third competition attracted even more interest than previous competitions and as such we were able to assemble five ultimate dream teams from across the contract, plus we also welcomed our colleagues from Melbourne Water to join us.
It was great to hear everyone was keen and up for lacing up their boots again, to showcase their soccer skills and have fantastic night of fun!
Games comprised of 2 x 10-minute halves. Separated by a 3-minute break (timed) with the five teams playing in a round-robin format.
At the conclusion of the round-robin stage, the top two teams ‘The Soccerpoos’ and ‘Water Stars’ played in the Grand Final, where in a sensational last minute goal, the all-brown team ‘The Soccerpoos’ grabbed the trophy for the 2nd time in a row!
You aced it Captain Eoin and ‘The Soccerpoos’, way to go!
L-R: Previn Pereira, Tim Omeara, Matt Leatham, Christian Hoffer, Eoin Cannon
After the competition, players headed off to the local restaurant to replenish electrolytes and enjoy a dinner filled with competitive banter and laughs! The event was truly impressive and an unforgettable Work & Smile ‘Team’ event for all!
Finally, a huge shout out to Ali Khatami our ‘Futsal mastermind’ for organising this event, your hard work, dedication and enthusiasm to make this event a success inspires us all, thank you!"
Thanks for sharing, Sharon!
