Brewing support at Melbourne Airport's Biggest Morning Tea

Written by Facility Management | Jun 14, 2024 2:18:48 AM

The way that our Programmed Facility Management team members pull together to help those in need and continuously seek out ways to make a real impact is a big point of pride for our business and community. A fantastic example was recently demonstrated by our Melbourne Airport team, who recently came together to raise money for Cancer Council by holding a Biggest Morning Tea event.

Organised by Jaimee Lyberis, Operations Centre Manager, the event marked the second year of hosting a Biggest Morning Tea at Melbourne Airport, with passionate speakers making for a moving morning.  Sadly, many of us can relate to either knowing or losing someone due to a battle with cancer, so it was an event close to many hearts.

One staff member who graciously his story was Jake Brizzi, who detailed his wife’s battle with cancer. His passion shone through as he spoke about a trial medication that allowed him and his sons an extra two years with his wife, reiterating the importance of raising awareness and funds for organisations like Cancer Council and holding events like the Biggest Morning Tea.

Bolstering the event were staff members David Eid and Nicholas Semini, who corageously volunteered to shave their heads to drive awareness and donations.

The event also inspired and encouraged a staff member to speak up about his own experience with his mum currently battling breast cancer, having not disclosed this with his workmates previously. His brave admission has allowed his fellow workmates to be there and support him in this difficult time, speaking to the huge impact that these gatherings can have on both our Programmed community and the community at large.

We’re incredibly proud of our Melbourne Airport team for their efforts, having raised $2534 for Cancer Council and creating an opportunity for our staff to speak up and support each other through both good times and bad.

A big thanks to Jaimee Lyberis for submitting this great story! Do you have a story to share about an event at your workplace? Send it to us for publishing by clicking below!
