The Kimberley 9's Carnival recently returned for its fourth consecutive year, bringing together approximately 400 primary and secondary students from across the Kimberley region for a two-day event held at Gantheaume Point, Broome.
The AFL football carnival, supported by the Purple Hands Foundation and the Fremantle Dockers, is a celebration and reward for students who have attained good school attendance, participated in workshops, and demonstrated positive behaviours in and out of school.
The carnival forms part of the Kimberley Connected Program, an initiative supported by Containers for Change, the WA Police, Shire of Broome, Kimberley Regional Service Providers, along with many other local organisations - and most importantly, proudly supported by Programmed.
Students were brought together for an interschool round-robin football competition, including participation by Fremantle Dockers players Bailey Banfield and Michael Frederick, who assisted with umpiring and shared valuable coaching tips with the young players.
The 2024 event was the second time Programmed was privileged to be a part of this vibrant community initiative, with extra pairs of hands being leant by Roslyn Harley, First Nations Engagement Manager and Ben Hasler, Justice Integration Team Leader.
Programmed provided catering support, working closely with Woolworths to deliver a huge supply of fresh fruit and much-needed bags of ice for the two-day carnival.
Students who attended the event proudly wore their 2024 Kimberley 9’s shirts, designed by 165 students from across the Kimberley. Day one kicked off with a Welcome to Country, followed by a day filled with football and the opportunity for students to build connections and engage with one another.
We can't wait to be involved with this fantastic event again later this year!
