Did you know that Programmed offers eligible employees two paid volunteer leave days per calendar year, giving you the opportunity to engage in meaningful volunteer work with full support from the company?
Our Volunteer Guideline, launched in December 2024, allows eligible employees to participate in volunteer work aligned with your skills, interests, and availability.
Some of our Melbourne Water team members at Eastern Treatment Plant (ETP) recently took up the offer, choosing to volunteer with 2nd Mornington Sea Scouts and Transit Soup Kitchen. Eoin Cannon and Steve Westendorp had the following to share about their volunteering experiences.
🌊 2nd Mornington Sea Scouts- Eoin Cannon, Electrical Worker Grade 8
"As with all scouting groups, 2nd Mornington Sea Scout group rely solely on volunteers to run their program and provide opportunities to local youth to seek adventure, make lifelong friends and learn important life skills.
The current hall has been in place on Mornington’s Scout Beach since 1960 and while repainted at various times since then, once again after years of sun, salt air and general splatter, it was in real need of a refresh.
Massive thank you to PFM for providing the opportunity, and to Ian Briggs, Travis Armstrong and Matt Hurst for giving up their time to bring their painting skills and enthusiasm to help say goodbye to yellow/green walls, with the crisp clean look now mirroring the blue/white of the waves the hall looks out onto.
All associated with 2nd Mornington Sea Scouts are very grateful and will continue to enjoy the hall for many years to come."
🍎 Transit Soup Kitchen - Steve Westendorp, Electrical Worker Grade 8
"The Leaders at Transit Soup Kitchen really appreciated our help on the day.
It was particularly busy on the day. Typically, they get two truck deliveries, which can include several pallets each, but yesterday they had a third delivery. With the school holidays taking away some of the regular helpers, our extra hands were invaluable.
Our day was spent sorting vegies from Second Bite. We also had to restack and pack various products to go in the fridge or freezer from Oz Harvest and FoodBank Victoria.
After lunch, the food is distributed to the needy who come in from the local community.
Thanks to Programmed for giving us a day off to assist with a valuable community service."
If you have any stories or photos of your team volunteering, we’d love to see them! With your permission, we’d like to share these across the business to celebrate our collective contributions. If you’re comfortable, please send them to the HR team at maintenancehr@programmed.com.au
