Programmed was honoured to recently attend the opening of the Wirin Bidi Exhibition at Wadjemup Museum on Wadjemup Rottnest Island.

Hosted by the Rottnest Island Authority, the event offered us a profound opportunity to engage with the Wadjemup Project - a journey of truth, remembrance, and cultural awareness.

The Wadjemup Wirin Bidi (Wadjemup Spiritual Journey) exhibition recounts the stories of the Island’s Aboriginal prisoners, their families, and the ongoing efforts to honour their legacies through the Wadjemup Project.

A series of powerful exhibits allow attendees insight into the impacts of Island’s history and the significance of remembrance and healing.

The day included a moving smoking ceremony, accompanied by the sounds of a didgeridoo and traditional dancing, fostering a space for reflection and connection.

We’re grateful to have shared this important cultural experience and to deepen our understanding of Wadjemup’s history - a vital part of our connection to local communities and moving on the path towards reconciliation.
