Building team spirit and camaraderie on the courts.

Team bonds and rivalry were put to the test on a recent Friday as team members from the Melbourne Water contract came head-to-head in their first Fustbal competition!

Driven by a passion for football (soccer), Senior E&I Engineer Ali Khatami took the initiative to create a fun night for team members to engage in a friendly battle on the courts, followed by drinks and a feed.

For those uninitiated, Futsbal has many similarities to football, however Futsbal is played indoors on a much smaller court, ensuring a fast-paced and more intense game with more opportunity for goal scoring.

The games were comprised of two 10-minute halves, separated by a three-minute break, with each win earning three points and a draw earning one point for each team. At the end of the rounds, the top two teams played in a final showdown.

In the end, the Water Stars claimed the ultimate victory in a nailbiter 3-2 finish against The Soccerpoos (but we have to give the latter team credit for that incredible name!).

Having received overwhelmingly positive feedback, the team plans to hold the competition as a recurring event twice a year as a perfect opportunity to foster camaraderie and team spirit.

What a fantastic initiative – a big shoutout to Ali and the Melbourne Water team, as well as the Water Stars on their win!
