This week, Programmed joins the millions of Australians across the country recognising NAIDOC Week - an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and to participate in celebrations of the oldest continuing living cultures on earth.
Last weekend, Southern Lions Rugby Union Club hosted a game for their NAIDOC Week Round, along with a fundraising event in support of Aboriginal organisation Voice of Hope.
Programmed proudly sponsored and supported the Southern Lions in the NAIDOC Week event, which was a resounding success, raising nearly $10,000 in support of the important work done by Voice of Hope in the community.
Voice of Hope is a registered charity and an Aboriginal organisation dedicated to empowering Aboriginal women, particularly those who are currently or have previously been incarcerated, by fostering a strong sense of community, cultural connection and healing.
Voice of Hope programs assist women by providing essential services and support both before and after their release to enable successful transition into the community, family, and workforce.
Programmed worked alongside Southern Lions Rugby Club and Voice of Hope to co-design a one-off playing jersey for the special game. The Voice of Hope design, originally created by Noongar designer Buffie Corunna of Buffie Creative, was beautifully integrated into the team jersey and proudly worn by the players.
This unique jersey symbolises the spirit of NAIDOC week and highlights the collaboration and creativity within our community. After the premier game, the jerseys were auctioned off with all funds going directly to Voice of Hope.
Voice of Hope Chairperson Lorraine Pryor said they are overjoyed at the unexpected fundraising total and loved the co-designed jersey. "We really thank Programmed and the Southern Lions Rugby Union Club for their support and respect they showed us," said Lorraine Pryor, Voice of Hope Founder and Director.
"By wearing that jersey with our colours, symbols and logo, they honoured the strength and resilience of Aboriginal women, especially those who have faced incarceration."
The event was filled with camaraderie, new connections, and a shared commitment to making a positive impact - as well as a great game won by the Southern Lions!
