Recognising International Day for the Elimination of Racial Descrimination (IDERD)

Mar 16, 2026 2:31:09 PM | Culture & Community Recognising International Day for the Elimination of Racial Descrimination (IDERD)

An opportunity to pause, reflect, and take action against racism in all its forms.

On 21 March, we recognise the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (IDERD). This global day is an opportunity to pause, reflect, and take action against racism in all its forms.

In previous years, this day was commonly recognised as Harmony Day. While the intention behind Harmony Day was positive, IDERD allows us to be more honest and purposeful by acknowledging that racism, whether overt or subtle, individual or systemic, still exists and has real impacts on people, communities and workplaces.

At Programmed, recognising IDERD reflects our commitment to doing more than just acknowledging difference. It reinforces our shared responsibility to create a workplace where everyone feels respected, heard and supported.

Our diversity is one of our strengths. Our people represent over 80 nationalities, speak more than 55 languages, and bring a wide range of backgrounds, cultures and experiences that make our organisation stronger.

What can you do?

  • Speak up and take action against racism and discrimination when you see it

  • Be a role model for inclusive behaviour

  • Encourage learning and conversations about different cultures

  • Get involved in local activities that celebrate diversity

Toolbox Talk

Below is a Toolbox Talk with more information about IDERD. We encourage everyone to take a read and share amongst your teams.

If you host an event in recognition of IDERD please feel free to share any photos of stories with the team at maintenancehr@programmed.com.au. Let’s come together as a business and showcase the strength and unity that comes from our collective commitment to diversity and inclusion.
