As we head into the third week of Safe Work Month, we’re highlighting the powerful role that appreciation and recognition play in supporting employee mental health, as well as Programmed resources available to you and your loved ones.
Appreciation and recognition of our efforts puts us in a positive headspace, allowing us to return home to our family and loved ones feeling good about what we do.
The importance of recognising a job well done
Appreciation and recognition have been shown to significantly boost our satisfaction at work while creating a positive and productive work environment. By acknowledging and valuing work well done, we can:
- Boost morale and motivation: Recognising employees’ contributions makes them feel appreciated and valued.
- Enhance motivation: When people are recognised for their efforts, they’re more likely to stay motivated.
- Strengthen employee engagement: Team members feel their contributions make an impact, leading to deeper engagement.
- Create a positive workplace culture: Recognition, whether from managers or peers, builds mutual respect within teams.
- Encourage teamwork and collaboration: Acknowledging individual and team achievements reinforces the value of working together.
- Support personal growth: Regular recognition builds confidence and encourages us to take on new challenges.
- Create a positive ripple effect: Recognition is contagious - when one of us is acknowledged, others are inspired to step up and support each other.
Recognition doesn’t always need to include formal rewards to be impactful - simple gestures of praise and gratitude can create a supportive work environment where we feel encouraged to succeed.
HSEQ Recognition Model
To support this week's focus, we're introducing our HSEQ Recognition Model. This model outlines criteria and guidelines for identifying and recognising individuals who promote knowledge, skills, and attitudes aligned with our company values and Work and Smile.
It emphasises workplace health, safety, and well-being behaviours. Recognition can be made manager-to-team member or peer-to-peer, with entries made in ProSafe in the Something Good section (select Nominate for Recognition) according to the Group HSEQ Recognition Program.
