Te Wiki o te Reo Māori: Let’s speak, live and learn together

From September 14 to 21, we’ll be celebrating Te Wiki o te Reo Māori - Māori Language Week, and we’re inviting everyone across Programmed to be part of it.

This is more than just a language initiative. It’s an opportunity to connect with te ao Māori, the Māori world and reflect on how our own values as a business align with the principles that sit at the heart of Aotearoa, New Zealand.

At Programmed, we’re guided by four core values, customer service, care and empathy, diversity and inclusion, and personal safety leadership. These values shape how we show up every day and when you look closely, they’re deeply connected to Māori values too.

Take manaakitanga, for example, the act of showing care and hospitality to others. It aligns directly with our commitment to customer service and how we build trust through genuine, respectful relationships. Or aroha and kaitiakitanga, compassion and guardianship, which mirror how we support each other and the environment, and how we foster a workplace where wellbeing matters just as much as results.

Throughout this celebration, we’ll share small, everyday ways to engage on our social media platforms.

You don’t need to be fluent. You just need to be open. Every time you say kia ora, every phrase you try, every conversation you have, it all helps strengthen te reo Māori, and strengthens the culture we’re building together.

Kia kaha te reo Māori, let’s make the language strong and make space for learning that brings us closer.
