Your voice, our future - highlights from our Engagement Survey

Feb 4, 2025 3:43:46 PM | From Our Leaders Your voice, our future - highlights from our Engagement Survey

An update from Programmed Facility Management CEO Graeme Hurn.

All of us have the opportunity to influence the environment that we work in, every day. Our annual Engagement Survey is a chance for everyone across Facility Management to have their say and offer feedback to shape a workplace we can all be proud of.

I want to begin by once again offering my utmost thanks to all who participated in our 2024 Engagement Survey – your voice is the most valuable tool in driving improvements and building our future.

With over 1,600 employees taking part, leading to an incredible 80% participation rate, and over 3,600 comments received, we’re fortunate to have a wealth of insights and feedback to inform our path forward.

Today, I’m pleased to share a rundown of our results, including key strengths, areas for improvement, next steps, and more.

What we're doing well

Pleasingly, we’ve continued to rate highly in the areas of diversity and inclusion, personal safety leadership, and teamwork and ownership. This is a fantastic example of how we continue to embrace and actively live our values.

Where we can improve

  • Communication - Enhancing how we share business updates and our vision, both at a strategic and local level.
  • Enablement - Providing better tools and processes to help you succeed.
  • Feedback and recognition - Providing more consistent and meaningful recognition for outstanding performance.
  • Growth and development - Creating more opportunities for professional development within the business.

How we're taking action

  • Communication - We will provide consistent updates on business priorities, acknowledge the preference for email and toolbox talks as the primary method of communication, and ensure our communications are reaching every part of our business.

Following the success of our first all-company Town Hall, we will increase the frequency of these future events, allowing an opportunity to hear directly from our leaders and offering a chance for two-way communication through regular Q&A sessions.

  • Enablement - The project has commenced to migrate our business into an upgraded version of our current Work & Asset Management solution (Maximo), with D365 F&O to be used as the back end Financial Solution.

This is an exciting development on our digital transformation journey where we strive to implement new technology that is easy to use and ensures we meet and exceed our customer needs.

Further information will be provided shortly by the Project Team on our implementation and roll-out plans.

  • Feedback and recognition - We are reviewing our current recognition programs to better acknowledge your contributions to our success.

  • Growth and development - We will continue to support our team members in engaging with focused and tailored learning opportunities, creating more opportunities for professional development across the business.

This year, our Learning and Development team will expand offerings in Leadership, Project Management, and Internal Mentoring, with a strong focus on building skills and knowledge in leadership and management, health and wellbeing, safety and risk, cultural awareness, and systems and technical training.

Our Apprentice and Graduate Program are the foundation for building the next generation of skilled professionals and future leaders, and we will continue to invest in these programs.

Additionally, our Review & Reflection process will remain a high priority, encouraging meaningful career and development conversations with your manager. In an exciting step forward, we will begin rolling this process out to our field-based teams later this year.

The survey has also indicated other more localised areas for improvement, which the Facility Management Leadership Team will address with their respective teams.

Giving back to our community

Another real strength that we’ve acknowledged through our survey is the positive impact that we have on our broader community.

Thanks to your participation in our survey, I’m proud to share that your responses have resulted in our donation of $8,320 to Lifeline.

Lifeline provides support to people experiencing emotional distress and offers 24-hour crisis support and suicide prevention services.

Our Engagement Survey isn’t just a one-off event – it’s an ongoing process of optimising the way we work and creating a positive workplace environment for all. Using your insights and feedback, we’re continuing to develop and deliver actions that directly address the areas of improvement that you’ve told us need our focus. I look forward to sharing more over the coming months.

Thank you again for your participation and in helping us build a workplace we’re all proud to be a part of.

Take care and stay safe,

Graeme Hurn
