Understanding and managing psychosocial risks (those factors in the workplace that can impact mental health and wellbeing) is key to creating a safe and supportive workplace.
Last year we conducted our first organisation wide Psychosocial Health Assessment through our Psychosocial Health Survey which provided insight into the key psychosocial factors across our organisation.
Findings included:
Our wellbeing scores closely matched Culture Amps global benchmarking scores aligning us with other organisations.
What we are doing well:
- Supporting our team members and colleagues.
- Being clear on role requirements.
- Knowing which tasks are important to prioritise.
- Providing strong manager support in some areas.
Challenges and opportunities for improvement:
- Managing increased workloads due to factors such staff turnover.
- Increasing transparency and communication around changes.
- Recognising good performance.
- Helping managers express their emotions.
- Improving some of our systems.
To gain further insight into what psychosocial factors are impacting our people at a more localised level, a Site/Role Psychosocial Risk Assessment Tool has been created and is available here on the intranet.
This tool has been developed to support our overarching Business Psychosocial Health Survey Risk Assessment by providing another layer of assessment allowing a more detailed look into the risks and controls for specific parts of the organisation and roles. The risk assessment tool is suitable for all parts of the business and promotes early intervention and continuous improvement in managing psychosocial hazards.
Competency for Completing Psychosocial Risk Assessments
The risk assessment is designed to be completed with support from the HSEQ team and anyone completing risk assessments shall first complete our internal Psychosocial and Psychological Safety training which outlines our risk management framework and related tools. Training sessions can be booked through the Learning and Development Calendar or by clicking here. There is also a session on Conducting Psychosocial Risk Assessments that will be conducted in September and bookings can be made by clicking here.
