This Friday, we share an incredible story of quick thinking, care and empathy by a budding young paramedic and his team leader at PPS that saved an elderly woman in the midst of a medical event.
Earlier this year, Programmed Geelong’s grounds maintenance crew were working at The Mantra in Lorne and paused to have lunch offsite down the street. They were soon joined by an elderly woman who sat at the table next to them, appearing very distressed and lightheaded.
In a fortunate twist, among the crew was Will Fraser, a casual worker who was joining the team for a few months while completing his studies and placement into becoming a paramedic. He quickly noticed that something wasn’t right, jumping straight to his feet and rushing over to the lady’s aid, asking a number of questions about her medical history and activities on the day.

As it turns out, she had been to an exercise class without having eaten enough, and as Will was assessing her, she began to convulse and experience a medical event. Will acted quickly as his training kicked in, and with the help of Team Leader Jack, they laid the woman down on the ground and put her in the recovery position. As this was happening, Will instructed an onlooker to call 000.
Fortunately, after 5-10 minutes, the woman started to feel much better. Paramedics arrived shortly afterwards, and she was taken to hospital for assessment.
Along with a number of onlookers, the woman treated by Will was extremely grateful for his help, expressing how sage she felt with Will there by her side.
Will showed amazing care and empathy for the woman, with his training and attention having prevented potential catastrophic injuries.

“A story like this highlights to me that we have such amazing people involved all over our business,” said Brendan Wemyss, Project Manager at PPS Geelong.
Such a powerful story and demonstration of the ways our Programmed community goes above and beyond their call of duty! A massive shoutout to Will for his incredible work and to Brendan Wemyss for sharing the story with all of us - a true example of how we Work and Smile 'For All of Us'.
