Dave joined Programmed in recent years and has quickly found his place as the Contract Manager for Burswood Park, leading the grounds team responsible for maintaining the park’s gardens, pathways and riverfront areas. Rain or shine, he and his team ensure the park remains in top condition for the thousands of people who visit every week.

For Dave, this work is deeply personal. As a local family man, he often brings his young sons to the park on weekends, showing them the spaces he helps maintain and teaching them the satisfaction that comes from doing work that benefits others. Those moments with his children remind him that what he does each day supports the broader community, creating a place for families like his own to enjoy.

Dave takes immense pride in the quality and consistency of his team’s work. Whether it’s maintaining garden beds, preparing the grounds for major events, or keeping the riverside walkways safe and accessible, he sees every task as an opportunity to contribute to something meaningful for the community.

His story reflects the heart of Work and Smile – finding purpose in the work you do, taking pride in the outcomes, and creating spaces that make life better for others.

“What I enjoyed most about the filming day was the collaborative and fun atmosphere, and the chance to reflect on how our work fits into the wider business. The drone shots were a real highlight, and even though I felt a few unexpected nerves, the team made the whole experience easy and supportive.

Being part of this year’s Work & Smile series was a privilege, and I’m grateful I was able to share a small part of my story and contribute to the ‘For Me, For We, For Us.”

I felt well supported during filming and am glad I was given a few takes to calm my nerves and relax a bit. Also enjoyed a few laughs.

Meet Victoria Sumido - Cleaning Supervisor

Originally from the Philippines, Victoria made Australia her home several years ago and has embraced vast beauty of the WA outback ever since. The diversity of Victoria’s team is something she particularly values about her role, with team members from all over the world pulling together to create something really special. 🧹 ✨

Today, she supervises cleaning teams across remote mining villages, ensuring every room is clean, comfortable and ready for the many migrant FIFO workers who rely on these spaces as their home-away-from-home.

Each morning begins with a team Pre-Start stretch, setting the tone for a day of nimble, quiet work behind the scenes, refreshing rooms, replacing amenities and making sure every guest feels looked after.

What grounds Victoria most in her work is the landscape around her. The red earth, open skies and wildlife of regional WA are a world away from where she grew up, but they’ve become part of her story. She says the red dust is now in her heart.
